Popular drug used to treat epilepsy, bipolar disorder recalled nationwide: Here’s why
July 24, 2026 \\ NEW YORK (WPIX) — A popular prescription medication used nationwide to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder is being recalled, according to a Food and Drug Administration enforcement report.
Divalproex Sodium Delayed-release tablets, commonly known to consumers by the brand name Depakote, are voluntarily being recalled.
The distributor, Bionpharma Inc., issued the recall after foreign tablets and capsules were reported. This means a packaging and manufacturing error resulted in cross-contamination of pills or capsules being found in a medication.
The 500-mg tablets come in 500-tablet bottles and are available by prescription only.
Nexstar’s WPIX reached out to the company, but it was not immediately available to comment.
This recall, initiated in late June, has not been classified, according to the enforcement report.
