Bicycle Helmets That Are

Properly Fitted Save Lives

Brain injury is the number 1 killer and disabled of children in America, and, head injury is the leading cause of epilepsy in our children.  There is no cure for brain injury and epilepsy - a blow to your head can change your life forever! Bicycle helmets are 85% effective in protecting against a brain injury.

As of January 1, 1997children in Florida under the age of 16 must wear a bicycle helmet that:  is properly fitted, is fastened with a strap and meets safety standards.  Head injuries in children account for more than $40 million dollars in direct medical costs every year in the United States.

One of our major goals at EACF is to prevent acquired forms of epilepsy.  By educating parents and their children to wear helmets properly fitted may prevent children from a lifetime with epilepsy.

Over the years EACF has given out nearly 20,000 free bicycle helmets to Central Florida's economically disadvantaged children in our effort to prevent acquired forms of epilepsy due to head injury.
